United Nations TCDC Network Demonstration Base (hereinafter referred to as TCDC Base), an international comprehensive demonstration base, was established in May, 1999 on the basis of Asia Pacific Edible Mushroom Training Center. Its main tasks are: carrying out Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries, studying on developmental models and operational mechanism for transforming from TCDC into ECDC and implementing them, and propelling international exchanges and cooperation on relevant technologies and industry fields and promote economy development through material demonstration.
1. Undertaking Foreign Aiding Tasks for developing countries assigned by Ministry of Commerce.
By 2004, TCDC Base (Asia Pacific Edible Mushroom Training Center) has held ten-session international training courses on edible mushroom technology and three-session international training courses on flower technology, which trained over 300 technicians and managing officers in edible mushroom and flower fields from over 60 countries. The training courses are sponsored by the Department of Aid to Foreign Countries, Ministry of Commerce, the Department of International Cooperation on Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology and Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations.
2. Implementing UN TCDC Projects.
TCDC Base implemented UNDP and UNIDO Projects under UN TCDC framework by international exchange activities, such as Asia Pacific Workshop on TCDC and International Symposium on Watershed Management. It established international channel for cooperation, guided enterprises to do “going global” and carried out international cooperation on science and technology and economy trade.
3. Carrying out international cooperation
TCDC Base conducted cooperation with its counterparts -- Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea, Center for plant Biotechnology, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro (former Yugoslavia) and so on, which reached win-win result.
4. Promoting the integration of enterprises, institutes and universities.
It undertook important projects on international scientific and technological cooperation from Ministry of Science and Technology, Fujian Provincial key project and the major project from Fujian Provincial Department of Science and Technology, which have achieved the scientific fruits in the fields covering edible and medicinal mushroom technology and watershed management.
