The 9th Session of China-Guyana JCCT Held in Guyana

The 9th Session of China-Guyana Joint Commission of Commerce and Trade was held in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana on February 16th. Fu Ziying, Assistant Minister of Commerce of China and Clement Rohee, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana co-chaired the conference.

China and Guyana were satisfactory with development of economic and trade cooperation since the 8th session JCCT. The two sides believed that it accorded with common interest of people of the two countries to strengthen bilateral friendly cooperation, and the two countries should continue to make efforts and to take further measures to enhance and expand bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in every field through China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum and decided to set up two mechanisms under JCCT framework, one was the China-Guyana Council for business development led by CCPIT and Private Enterprise Association of Guyana, the other was cooperative partnership set up by Trade Development Bureau of MOFCOM and Department of International Cooperation for Foreign Trade of Guyana, aiming at promoting SME cooperation. Chinese side introduced related condition of 10th Xiamen Investment and Trade Fair and 100th CECF, and invited Minister Clement Rohee to lead delegation to attend. And Minister Clement Rohee accepted the invitation with pleasure.

To express sympathy of Chinese government for floods in Guyana not long ago, support Guyana to develop economy and alleviate burden of the debt, Chinese government decided to provide free assistance valued RMB10 million Yuan and funds for disaster relief of US$30 thousand, and remitted their debt due before the end of 2004. The two sides exchange views on details of economic assistance project. Guyana expressed gratitude to China for long-term free assistance.

The two sides signed a series of agreements including China-Guyana governmental economic and technological cooperation agreement after the conference.
